CME - Continuing Medical Education Information

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and the Federation of State Medical Boards. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Activity Identification: The Office of Continuing Education at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas has reviewed and identifies this activity to pertain to professional/administrative medicine.

Credit Designation: This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

Off-label Uses: Because this course is meant to educate physicians with what is currently in use and what may be available in the future, there may be "off-label" use discussed in the presentation. Speakers have been requested to inform the audience when off-label use is discussed.

Target Audience: The Annual Meeting is designed specifically for board members, which includes Family Physicians, and staff of state medical boards, as well as individuals concerned or interested in medical licensing, regulation and discipline.

Method of Teaching: Through presentations and discussions by distinguished faculty, the presenters will move attendees through the objectives stated.

Course Objectives: The Federation's Annual Meeting is designed specifically for members and staff of state medical boards, as well as individuals interested in medical licensing, regulation and discipline. Upon completion of this educational activity, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify and discuss dynamics that may influence how medical boards will regulate physicians in the future;
  • Describe strategies that are being used by medical boards to protect the public; and,
  • Investigate options for improving state medical boards' performance and effectiveness in protecting the public.

This year's program consists of presentations and discussions by distinguished faculty, question-and-answer sessions, and group breakout sessions. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, the accredited sponsor, is jointly sponsoring this activity with the Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States, Inc.
