General Description: The Board of Registration in Medicine was established in 1894 and consists of seven members, five physicians and two public members, who are appointed by the Governor for staggered three-year terms. The mission of the Board is to serve the public by striving to ensure that only qualified physicians are licensed to practice in the Commonwealth, to ensure that those physicians and health care institutions in which they practice provide to their patients a high standard of care, and to support an environment that maximizes the high quality of health care in Massachusetts. The Board plays a critical role in protecting the public by investigating complaints, holding hearings and determining sanctions against physicians and acupuncturists who practice in the Commonwealth.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for providing overall management of the agency functions established to support the work of the Board. These functional areas include licensing, enforcement, public information, patient care assessment, legal, IT and policy. The Executive Director works closely with the Department of Public Health's CFO on all fiscal matters and with the Health HR Director to manage human resource issues for the agency. The Executive Director is charged with hiring and managing legal, medical, and other professional staff who research and make recommendations to the members of the Board on issues of licensure, discipline and policy. The Executive Director works to identify efficiencies within the agency and spearheads initiatives to improve service delivery to physicians, health care institutions and the public at large.

General Description: The Executive Director (ED) is the daily and operational representative of the Washington Medical Quality Assurance Commission (MQAC). It leads the efforts of the commission to regulate, establish, monitor and enforce qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline. The ED is responsible to perform all administrative duties of the commission, including preparing an annual budget, and any other duties as delegated to the ED by the commission.
Duties and Responsibilities: The ED is responsible for the effective and efficient use of MQAC resources, which include 34 staff and a biennial budget. The ED must use both strategic and tactical discretion, as delegated by the MQAC, to work with key external stakeholders and influence professional policies at legislative, budgetary, and administrative levels.

NEVADA STATE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS | Executive Director/Special Counsel
General Description: Under general direction of the Board, administers the day-to-day operations of the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners. Provides legal representation and advice as required by the Board.
Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee the management of the Board office consistent with Board policy and directive. Assist the Secretary-Treasurer in the preparation of the biennial budget; administer the biennial budget as approved by the Board; recommend budget adjustments and appropriate investments to the Secretary-Treasurer. Recruit, screen, hire, discipline and terminate employees; assign, train, supervise and evaluate staff; recommend staff salaries to the Board for approval; approve all staff travel for purposes other than education and training; submit staff travel for education and training to Board for approval. Serve as secretary to the Board. Schedule, coordinate and attend Board and Committee meetings. Provide necessary information to the Board and committees of the Board; report progress and needs and recommend necessary action concerning operation of the Board office. Research and recommend revisions in statutes or regulations. Research and recommend purchase of major equipment items. Coordinate the activities of the Board with other boards and agencies as necessary. Attend meetings of professional organizations as approved by the Board.

TEXAS MEDICAL BOARD | Executive Director - Job Posting # 08-503-38
General Description: The executive director is appointed by the Medical Board and serves at the pleasure of the board as the chief executive and administrative officer of the agency. Recommends and participates in the Board's formulation of its mission, strategic plan, rules and policies. Within that framework, plans, organizes, coordinates, controls, directs and evaluates programs, activities and staff of the agency. Responsible to the TMB for implementing the Medical Practice Act, rules and regulations and the Board's mission and goals. Serves as administrator of the Medical, Physician Assistant and Acupuncture Boards. Considerable travel may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities: 30% Serves as chief administrative officer for the boards. Promotes active participation on the part of the board and supports the members in their governance role. Responsible for formulating and recommending policies, rules and regulations, financial plans and other appropriate projects for board consideration and approval. Provides the necessary liaison and staff support to the boards and committees to help them fulfill their functions; assures that committee recommendations are submitted to the board for approval. Keeps the board fully informed on key issues impacting the mission and goals of the board. Monitors state and national trends in medicine and regulation of physicians. Keeps the board informed as to the implications of such trends including recommendations for the board's consideration.
