FCVS Tips
Apply early!
The verification process is dependent on the timely and complete responses of medical schools and training programs. FCVS strives to provide the most efficient application experience possible; however, we cannot guarantee how long it will take to process your application. Because unforeseen delays can occur during the credentialing process, FCVS encourages applicants to complete their FCVS application six months before they need their FCVS profile submitted to the state medical board for licensure.
- The FCVS application is NOT the same thing as an application for state medical licensure.
FCVS will provide verification of your core credentials to your state medical board. However, you will still need to submit a separate application for medical licensure to your state medical board.
International medical school graduates
Please be sure to submit copies of your transcripts, marks, course work or grades to FCVS. These copies will help us obtain accurate information from your medical school. You are also highly encouraged to complete the Express Mail portion of the FCVS application authorizing FCVS to use FedEX's overnight service to send verification requests to your medical school. This will significantly expedite your application process.
Physicians
If you prefer submitting a are submitting a paper application, email fcvs@fsmb.org. For initial applicants an additional $50 fee will be incurred for choosing to submit a paper application and an additional $25 fee will be incurred for subsequent request applicants.
Physician Assistants
State medical board examination information
For your information, this section of the FCVS application applies to individuals who took state medical board examinations before 1972. This does not apply to individuals who may have done an oral exam at a state board.
Oversized Diplomas
FCVS requires you to submit a photocopy of your diploma that is sized 8.5" x 11". Options for having your diploma reduced to this size include the following:
- Many universities offer to replace your diploma in a smaller size for a nominal fee. Contact your school’s Office of the Registrar to find out if your university offers this service.
- FedEx offers services that include scanning to make reductions of your larger format documents. Most FedEx locations can scan documents that are up to 36” wide and not mounted or framed.
For your convenience, FedEx Office offers FCVS applicants a discount on many services including: photocopies and passport photos. Additionally, applicants may purchase notary and shipping services. To receive the discount on eligible services present the FCVS Preferred Customer Number 8400051717 and your account number or payment to any FedEx Office location.
