The Federation of State Medical Boards has offered all Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education-approved programs (Programs) which have closed the opportunity to permanently store their resident records. This will provide a central repository for those entities requiring verification of a physicians credentials.

FSMB has signed agreements with each Program that forwards resident records to FSMB indicating that FSMB will maintain the records indefinitely and that the records forwarded to FSMB by the Programs are complete, accurate and unchanged from the original records.

FSMB has consulted with JCAHO, NCQA and URAC and have determined that verification of a physician's credentials from one of these closed programs by FSMB does meet the primary source verification requirements of each of these organizations.
