Important Announcement for International Medical School Graduates

The Federation of State Medical Boards Credentialing Verification Service (FCVS) has collaborated with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to reduce the duplication of efforts and redundancy in primary source verification of medical education for international medical school graduates. As of December 15, 2006, FCVS will request that ECFMG obtain and provide to FCVS verification of medical education for all IMG applicants to FCVS. Physician applicants to FCVS need to complete the ECFMG Release forms (included in the FCVS on-line application or paper application on the FCVS web site) and FCVS will coordinate with ECFMG to obtain the physician's credentials.

Due to the agreement between ECFMG and FCVS, only FCVS may obtain the physician's credentials from ECFMG. All questions or correspondence in regards to this agreement must be made to FCVS. ECFMG will not contact a physician directly for any reason in connection with this Agreement.

The FCVS Physician Subsequent Application is now available as an online application. Previously entered information from the Initial Application will automatically be entered in the subsequent application, with the ability to update their information and to submit the application electronically.

An FCVS application also can be obtained by calling toll-free 1-888-275-3287 or by e-mail to fcvs@fsmb.org. FCVS requires the applicant's name and current address for processing the request. When requests are sent via e-mail, confirmation will be sent when a request has been received. Make sure to specify whether you are requesting an Initial Application or Subsequent Application.

Overnight mail services are available through FedEx, Airborne and DHL; however, the individual's account number must be used.

For your convenience, FedEx Kinko's offers discounted services to FCVS applicants, including photocopies and passport quality photographs. Most of the documentation that you will be requested to send to FCVS can be taken to your local FedEx Kinko's location for one-stop shopping at a greatly reduced cost.
