FEDERATION OF STATE MEDICAL BOARDS (FSMB)
Obtaining a license to practice medicine in the United States is a rigorous process. The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) plays a central role in ensuring those entering the profession are qualified and have passed a national medical licensing examination.
After physicians are licensed, they must re-register periodically to continue their active status. The FSMB offers a variety of services to help physicians as they engage in the licensure process, ensuring efficiency, accuracy and timeliness. In collaboration with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), the FSMB administers the primary national medical licensing examination and assessment service for physicians. Through its Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS), the FSMB offers physicians permanent record-keeping and data security for their vital credentialing-information.
