Federation of State Medical Boards Announces Former President as Interim CEO

Barbara S. Schneidman, MD., M.P.H.The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) announced today the appointment of Barbara S. Schneidman, MD, MPH, as its Interim President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Schneidman is currently Vice President of Medical Education at the American Medical Association and prior to that was the Associate Vice President of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) from 1993-1998. She will assume her new position at the FSMB full-time on Jan. 1, 2009, while the FSMB Board of Directors conducts a national search for a permanent President/CEO. Learn more.

USA Today Features FSMB Letter on Pain Management

The Oct. 27 issue of USA Today included a letter to the editor from FSMB Senior Vice President Lisa Robin responding to a recent article on the rise in narcotic pain relief prescriptions for injured troops. The letter notes the balanced approach state medical boards have taken in addressing the issue of pain management by adopting policies balancing safe and effective pain care with minimizing the potential for abuse.
