Post-Licensure Assessment System (PLAS)
The Post-Licensure Assessment System (PLAS) is a joint program of the FSMB and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME®). The PLAS provides comprehensive services to medical licensing authorities for use in assessing the ongoing competence of licensed or previously licensed physicians. Such services benefit state medical boards, hospitals and other organizations interested in assuring that physicians who are providing patient care are competent to do so.
PLAS comprises two independent yet complementary services, medical knowledge assessment resources(the Special Purpose Examination) and multi-modal clinical competence assessment resources. Collectively, they provide a standardized, national program for assisting state medical boards in their ongoing mission to assure that qualified, competent physicians are licensed to practice medicine.
