SPEX Rescheduling/Canceling
Rescheduling of the SPEX is allowed, but with certain restrictions. The SPEX must be rescheduled within the examinee's eligibility period. Examinees will not be allowed to reschedule beyond their eligibility deadline. To reapply for the SPEX, examinees will be required to submit a new application and fee.
After scheduling a SPEX administration with Prometric, examinees may change their scheduled date or center by following the instructions on the Scheduling Permit for contacting Prometric. To avoid a rescheduling fee, examinees must cancel or reschedule their appointment no later than the following:
| Monday or Tuesday |
Friday of the preceding week |
| All other days |
Two days before the scheduled date |
(Note: Effective January 1, 2009, examinees will be required to reschedule their appointments at least 5 business days prior to their scheduled test date.)
Examinees will need to provide their Prometric Confirmation Number when rescheduling. Rescheduling or cancellations must be made and confirmed by direct contact with Prometric; leaving a message on a recorder or by voice mail is not sufficient to confirm these changes.
SPEX examinees who do not cancel their examination testing session per Prometric's procedures will be required to pay additional fees directly to Prometric in order to reschedule the examination within the 90-day eligibility deadline. Prometric rescheduling fees will also apply to those who need to reschedule because they do not provide adequate identification at the time of admission to their testing session, or they arrive too late to begin the examination without disrupting the test center's schedule.
To cancel an application, examinees must submit a letter, either by mail or by fax, with their signature to the Federation of State Medical Boards at the address below. More detailed information about rescheduling and canceling the SPEX is provided in the SPEX Information Bulletin.
