New Book Helps Physicians Better Manage Acute and Chronic Pain
The Federation of State Medical Boards Foundation (FSMB) has released a new book to help physicians better manage patients' acute or chronic pain. Responsible Opioid Prescribing: A Physicians Guide offers real-world explanations and practical strategies that address issues of undertreatment of pain, risk of prescription drug abuse and improved patient care.

Federation of State Medical Boards Announces Resignation of President and CEO James N. Thompson, M.D., F.A.C.S.
The Federation of State Medical Boards, a national not-for-profit representing the 70 medical boards of the United States and its territories, announced today the resignation of president and chief executive officer, James N. Thompson, M.D., F.A.C.S. Dr. Thompson's last day in office will be Friday, October 31.

FSMB Chair Regina Benjamin Receives MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant
Regina Benjamin, M.D., M.B.A., chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), was named a recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Genius Grant.

Web Portal Hosted by Federation of State Medical Boards Expanded to Include More Courses on Impact of Pharmaceutical Marketing on Prescribing Practices
A Web portal providing U.S. physicians with access to free, accredited CME courses about pharmaceutical industry marketing techniques and their effect on prescribing practices has been expanded to include additional courses.

DALLAS - Delegates to the Federation of State Medical Boards' 96th Annual Meeting elected new officers and board members during the organization's House of Delegates meeting on May 3 in San Antonio, Texas.

Federation of State Medical Boards Takes Interim Steps Towards Maintenance of Licensure Model Policy
DALLAS - On May 3, the Federation of State Medical Boards' (FSMB) House of Delegates took the next steps in developing a model policy that will assist states in requiring physicians to demonstrate their continuing competence as a condition of re-licensure.

USMLE Fees Adopted for 2009 Test Cycle
The United States Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) Budget Committee adopted the following fees for the 2009 test cycle at its April 23, 2008 meeting : Step 1, $495; Step 2CK, $495; Step 2CS $1055 and Step 3, $690. New Web Portal provides U.S. Physicians with Unbiased Information on Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices
The Federation of State Medical Boards Foundation (FSMB) today announced the launch of a new Web-based tool providing U.S. physicians with access to accredited educational programs about pharmaceutical industry marketing techniques and their effect on prescribing practices.

FSMB Vice President Commended by American Academy of Pain Medicine for Service to Chronic Sufferers of Pain
Lisa Robin, a senior vice president of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), recently received a Presidential Commendation for "exceptional service to individuals with pain" from the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM). The AAPM is the primary medical specialty society representing physicians practicing in the field of pain medicine.
