The Federation of State Medical

its member medical boards, physicians, the health
care community and the public of issues impacting
medical regulation.

The FSMB periodically convenes
representatives of state medical boards, together
with experts in specific subject areas, to study and
develop recommendations on issues pertinent to medical
regulation. Policies are intended to give guidance
and encourage consistency among state medical boards
in addressing trends in medical practice and regulation.
First Tri-Regulator Symposium: Protecting Patients and the Public:

In 2012, the FSMB, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) hosted a historic event in Washington, D.C.: the first-ever Tri-Regulator Symposium. This milestone meeting brought together leaders from the three organizations to advance consensus building and dialogue on issues of state-based regulation and licensure.

The brief was produced by the Law Enforcement Roundtable
of the Balanced Pain Policy Initiative, a collaborative
effort of the FSMB, the Center for Practical Bioethics

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is committed to assisting state medical
boards in protecting the public and improving the quality and integrity of health care in the
United States. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the numerous challenges it
created for the Gulf Coast region, the FSMB established a special workgroup to evaluate and
assess the issues in emergency preparedness, particularly as it relates to the licensing and
credentialing of physicians.This booklet discusses the Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Plan.
