USMLE STEP 3 EXAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Idaho

Post Graduate Training
US and Canadian Candidates

Must have completed one (1) year of post-graduate training in an ACGME, an AOA or an RCPSC approved program prior to applying.

Post Graduate Training
International Candidates

Must have completed three (3) years of residency training ACGME, an AOA or an RCPSC approved program prior to applying.

Attempt Limit

Limited to two (2) attempts to pass all three Steps of the USMLE.

Time Limit

Must complete USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3 within seven (7) years of passing the first examination.

Important Notes

  • If an Idaho applicant reaches the limited number of attempts without passing the USMLE, the applicant must seek approval from the Idaho State Board of Medicine for further training or a refresher course before another attempt is approved.

Eligibility Requirements/Cancellation Policy
If it is determined that you do not meet eligibility requirements at the time your application is received, or you decide to cancel your registration prior to approval, or your application is not complete by the published deadline date, your registration will be cancelled and a portion of the application fee withheld. The USMLE Step 3 fee is non-refundable and non-transferable from one eligibility period to another or from one application to another.
