USMLE STEP 3 EXAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

New Mexico

Post Graduate Training US and Canadian Candidates	Must have completed, or be near completion (10 months), of at least one post-graduate training year in a program accredited by the ACGME before applying.
Post Graduate Training International Candidates	Must have completed, or be near completion (10 months), of at least one post-graduate training year in a program accredited by the ACGME before applying.
Attempt Limit	Allowed a total of six (6) attempts at each Step or Step component
Time Limit	Must complete USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3, within seven (7) years from the date the first stage of the examination is passed. Exceptions - see Important Notes below.
Application for Licensure required to apply for Step 3	No

Important Notes

Applicants who are MD/PhD candidates must complete the entire examination sequence within 10 years from the date the first Step taken is passed. Dual degree candidates must submit notarized copies of both MD/ PhD diplomas with the Step 3 application.

Eligibility Requirements/Cancellation Policy
If it is determined that you do not meet eligibility requirements at the time your application is received, or you decide to cancel your registration prior to approval, or your application is not complete by the published deadline date, your registration will be cancelled and a portion of the application fee withheld. The USMLE Step 3 fee is non-refundable and non-transferable from one eligibility period to another or from one application to another.
