USMLE STEP 3 EXAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

North Dakota

Post Graduate Training US and Canadian Candidates	Must have completed, or be within six months of having completed, at least one post-graduate training year in a program of graduate medical education accredited by the ACGME, AOA, RCPSC, CFPC, or they must be enrolled in an approved post-graduate training program within the State of North Dakota.
Post Graduate Training International Candidates	Must have completed, or be within six months of having completed, at least one post-graduate training year in a program of graduate medical education accredited by the ACGME, AOA, RCPSC, CFPC, or they must be enrolled in an approved post-graduate training program within the State of North Dakota.
Attempt Limit	Maximum of three (3) attempts per Step or Step component.
Time Limit	Must complete USMLE Steps 1, 2CK, 2CS, and 3, within seven (7) years of passing the first examination. Exceptions - see Important Notes below.
Application for Licensure required to apply for Step 3	No

Important Notes

The board may grant an exception to this requirement for applicants who have concurrently pursued both MD and PhD degrees provided that the applicant's PhD studies have been in a field of the biological sciences, and provided that the applicant presents a verifiable and rational explanation for not meeting the seven-year time limit.

Eligibility Requirements/Cancellation Policy
If it is determined that you do not meet eligibility requirements at the time your application is received, or you decide to cancel your registration prior to approval, or your application is not complete by the published deadline date, your registration will be cancelled and a portion of the application fee withheld. The USMLE Step 3 fee is non-refundable and non-transferable from one eligibility period to another or from one application to another.
