USMLE STEP 3 EXAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Ohio

Post Graduate Training US and Canadian Candidates	Must have completed nine (9) months of post-graduate training accredited by the ACGME, AOA, RCPSC, CFPC, at a combined graduate medical education program whose separate individual programs are ACGME approved, or an internship program conducted in Canada and accredited by the committee on accreditation of pre-registration physician training programs of the Federation of Provincial Medical Licensing Authorities of Canada prior to applying.
Post Graduate Training International Candidates	Must have completed nine (9) months of post-graduate training accredited by the ACGME, AOA, RCPSC, CFPC, at a combined graduate medical education program whose separate individual programs are ACGME approved, or an internship program conducted in Canada and accredited by the committee on accreditation of pre-registration physician training programs of the Federation of Provincial Medical Licensing Authorities of Canada prior to applying.
Attempt Limit	Four (4) attempts at each Step or Step Component
Time Limit	Must complete USMLE Steps 1, 2 and 3 within ten (10) years of passing the first examination, as long as the applicant has not failed any step of the USMLE more than three times.
Application for Licensure required to apply for Step 3	No

Important Notes

If you meet the time limit through an exception involving a doctoral degree, the FSMB requires a notarized copy of the PhD diploma in order to verify eligibility.

Eligibility Requirements/Cancellation Policy
If it is determined that you do not meet eligibility requirements at the time your application is received, or you decide to cancel your registration prior to approval, or your application is not complete by the published deadline date, your registration will be cancelled and a portion of the application fee withheld. The USMLE Step 3 fee is non-refundable and non-transferable from one eligibility period to another or from one application to another.
