UNIFORM APPLICATION FOR PHYSICIAN STATE LICENSURE (UA)
UA History
Developed in 2004 by a workgroup of medical board representatives, the Uniform Application for Physician State Licensure was designed to increase license portability between states and add convenience for physicians applying for licensure in multiple states. Today, 19 states are using the UA.
The UA initiative is an integral part of the FSMB’s License Portability Project, an ongoing effort by state medical and osteopathic boards and the FSMB to develop tools and procedures to streamline the licensure process.
The convenience factor of the UA is even greater for physicians who participate in the Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS), which allows physicians to establish a lifetime portfolio of verified credentials which can be forwarded at the physician’s request to any state medical board, hospital, health care or any other entity.
When an FCVS user begins the application process with the UA, FCVS data auto-populates more than 70 percent of the core UA application – a significant time savings.
Like the UA, the FCVS is an integral part of the medical board community’s efforts to streamline the licensure process.
