USMLE Step 3 Resources

USMLE Step 3 Bulletin of Information
Contains an overview to the USMLE, eligibility for all Steps, a review of the content, resources to prepare for the test, information for applying and scheduling your exam, testing instructions, scoring and score reporting, and communication about the USMLE.

The following is a list of resources that you might find useful when learning about the USMLE.

  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE ®)
    Sponsored by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) the USMLE's purpose is to assess a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles to the practice of safe and effective patient care.
  • National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME)
    The NBME is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides high-quality examinations for the health professions. It is a model and a resource of international stature in testing methodologies and evaluation in medicine.
  • Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG ®)
    The ECFMG assesses the readiness of international medical graduates to enter residency or fellowship programs in the United States. It also offers programs and services to physicians educated abroad and other members of the international medical community.
  • Prometric
    Prometric is a trusted provider of technology-enabled testing and assessment. Its market-leading test development and delivery solutions allow clients to develop and launch global testing programs as well as accurately measure program results and data.

SPEX Resources

SPEX Bulletin of Information
Provides information on all aspects of the SPEX including eligibility requirements, scheduling test dates, testing and score reporting. It is essential that applicants read the SPEX Information Bulletin and all other application materials carefully before submitting an application to take the SPEX.

The following is a list of resources that you might find useful when learning about the SPEX.

  • Practice Test
    The SPEX program provides a practice test should provide familiarity with the formats used in the exam.
  • The Comprehensive Clinical Medicine Self-Assessment (CCMSA)
    A web-based self-assessment available through the NBME website. The CCMSA resembles the content in SPEX and will also familiarize candidates with the question formats used in the examination and with how to maneuver within the examination.
