Effective July 1, 2005, new Step 3 eligibility requirements take effect relative to the Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS).
- International Medical Graduates (IMGs): Effective July 1, all IMGs must have taken and passed either the Step 2 CS or the ECFMG’s Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) in order to be eligible for the Step 3.
- U.S. and Canadian graduates:Individuals who graduated in 2004 (or earlier) from an LCME- or AOA-accredited medical school program in the U.S. or Canada must have taken and passed Step 2 CK by June 30, 2005 -- otherwise, they must take and pass Step 2 CS (in addition to Step 2 CK) in order to sit for the USMLE Step 3.
- Individuals graduating in 2005 (or later) from an LCME- or AOA-accredited medical school program in the U.S. or Canada are required to take and pass Step 2 CS in order to be eligible to sit for the Step 3.
