2006 Schedule for Reporting Step 2 CS Results

A new reporting schedule for the Step 2 CS examination will be introduced in 2006. The 2006 schedule calls for results to be reported during specific periods throughout the year, rather than on a rolling basis as in the current process.

Change in Check-in Process

Effective September 1, there is a change to the check-in process for examinees sitting for USMLE at Prometric Testing Centers.

Changes to Step 3 Eligibility Requirements

Effective July 1, 2005, new Step 3 eligibility requirements take effect relative to the Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS).

  • International Medical Graduates (IMGs): Effective July 1, all IMGs must have taken and passed either the Step 2 CS or the ECFMG’s Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) in order to be eligible for the Step 3.
  • U.S. and Canadian graduates:Individuals who graduated in 2004 (or earlier) from an LCME- or AOA-accredited medical school program in the U.S. or Canada must have taken and passed Step 2 CK by June 30, 2005 -- otherwise, they must take and pass Step 2 CS (in addition to Step 2 CK) in order to sit for the USMLE Step 3.
  • Individuals graduating in 2005 (or later) from an LCME- or AOA-accredited medical school program in the U.S. or Canada are required to take and pass Step 2 CS in order to be eligible to sit for the Step 3.

USMLE Fees Adopted for 2006 Test Cycle

The United State Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) Budget Committee adopted the following fees for the 2006 test cycle at its April 11 meeting : Step1, $455; Step 2 CK, $455 and Step 3, $635. These fees represent an increase of $10 for each computer-based step, although some variations may occur based on the registering entity and the location where the USMLE is administered. The $635 cost for Step 3 falls within the previously established $650 fee ceiling as communicated to member boards in a memorandum dated April 14, 2004. The committee also voted to establish a $660 fee ceiling for the Step 3 for the 2007 test cycle. The fee schedule with be published in USMLE application materials as well as available on this site. Preliminary Step 2 CS Results

Because of the high level of interest in the USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) on the part of examinees, medical school, state licensing authorities and others, the USMLE program is providing a preliminary summary of Step 2 CS results.
