Transcripts Available through FSMB

FSMB produces certified transcripts for the USMLE, SPEX and FLEX examinations.

If you have taken both the NBME Parts exam and the USMLE, you must order your transcripts from NBME. NBME will provide transcripts for both exams in these instances.

If you need scores for other medical licensing exams – COMLEX-USA, NBME Parts, NBOME Parts, State Board Exams, LMCC – please follow the instructions provided in the Transcripts FAQs.

How to Order USMLE Transcripts

Order your USMLE transcript through FSMB if any of following apply to you:

You need your transcript sent to a medical licensing authority (state medical board). (FSMB is the only entity that sends official USMLE transcripts to medical licensing authorities.)
You have taken Step 1 and/or Step 2 CK and/or CS only, and were registered by NBME.
You have submitted an application for or taken Step 3. (Once you register for or take Step 3, regardless of how you registered for Step 1 or 2, you must order USMLE transcripts through FSMB.)

If You Need a Transcript Sent to Yourself

FSMB does not automatically send a copy of your transcript(s) to you when you submit a transcript order. If you need or would like a transcript sent to yourself, you must enter yourself as a recipient on your transcript order. To send a transcript to yourself, choose “Myself” as a recipient when completing the online transcript order. “Myself” will be counted as one recipient in calculating your fees for your order.

If you would like multiple copies of your transcript for your records, you do not need to enter yourself as a recipient multiple times. You only need to enter “yourself” as a recipient once. We will email you a link to a PDF copy of the transcript that you can download.

Fees

Transcript fees are non-refundable.

The fee - per transcript order - is $70.00 for up to five recipients and $5.00 for each additional recipient added at that time, on that order. All recipients must be included on the same order to take advantage of the $5 pricing for additional transcripts. Please review the sample scenarios below for additional clarification.

We cannot and will not refund, cancel, change, or add additional recipients to an order once it is submitted.

Make sure you need a transcript, have entered all recipients, and have entered the correct recipients before making payment and submitting your order.
If you realize that you need to add additional recipients or change a recipient after you have submitted your order, you must start and submit a new order, including payment of a new fee.

A detailed receipt is provided to you upon submission of each order, showing recipients, number of transcripts ordered, method of payment and total fees.

Sample Fee Scenarios:

You enter six medical licensing authorities and yourself as recipients. This totals seven recipients.

Your total fees would be $80. ($70 for the first 5 recipients, plus $5 each for the sixth and seventh recipients. $70+$5+$5 = $80.)

You realize after you submit your transcript order that you forgot to add a recipient.

You must start and submit a new transcript order. The fees will “start over”. Your cost would be $70 for the one recipient.
Recipients cannot and will not be added once a transcript order is submitted.

You submit a transcript order and when reviewing your receipt realize you entered a wrong recipient.

You find out after submitting a transcript order that you did not need to send a transcript.

You submit a transcript order for 6 recipients, totaling $75. ($70 for first five recipients + $5 for one additional recipient). You realize after submitting the request that you do not need to send a transcript to one of the recipients.

You will not be provided with a $5 refund for the 6^th recipient. It is your responsibility to make sure that you need a transcript sent to a recipient(s) before submitting the order.
Transcript fees are non-refundable.

Requesting a Transcript Before Your Score is Available

FSMB cannot and will not hold a transcript order pending the release of scores at a later date. If you have recently taken the USMLE or SPEX exam and need that score to appear on your transcript, do not submit a transcript order until you have received your official score report. Your fees will not be refunded if you submit a transcript order before your scores are released to you.

Cancellations and Changes

Once you submit a transcript order, it cannot be cancelled or changed. Make sure you need a transcript, have entered all recipients, and have entered the correct recipients before making payment and submitting your order. If you realize you need to add or change recipients after submitting your order, you must start and submit a new order, including payment of a new fee.

Processing Time

Transcripts are processed and sent to recipients very quickly – usually within 24 hours of the order being submitted. Your transcripts may go out the same day the order is received. Processing will be delayed if there is a name and/or date of birth change or discrepancy between what is provided on the transcript order and what we have in our database. All discrepancies are reviewed, verified (you must provide documentation verifying your name and/or date of birth) and corrected before the transcript is released.

Method of Delivery

All exam scores are confidential. Scores will not be provided over the phone. An official transcript order must be submitted before FSMB will provide your transcript to you or to any other individual or entity.

FSMB provides official USMLE, SPEX, and FLEX transcripts only in an electronic (PDF) format. We do not mail paper transcripts.

Medical licensing authorities – State medical and osteopathic boards in the United States, as well as a few medical regulatory authorities outside the U.S., receive transcripts electronically through a secure, online portal. Transcripts remain on the portal for six months from the delivery date.

Physician (Yourself) – Transcript will be sent to you at the email address you provide on your transcript order. The email will include a link for you to access and download the transcript. The link will be valid and accessible to you for 30 days.

Other –Transcript will be sent to the entity or individual via email at the email address you provide on your transcript order. The email will include a link for the recipient to access and download the transcript. The link will be valid and accessible to the recipient for 30 days.

Information Reported on Transcripts

FSMB reports all available exam history. If you have history/scores for multiple examinations, transcripts for all examinations will be included.

The official transcript includes the following:

Biographical information (date of birth and all names FSMB has for you).
Complete score/attempt history, including incomplete attempts. (Some state medical boards count incomplete attempts toward their exam attempt limits.)
Indication of whether any disciplinary action has been reported to the FSMB by a state medical board or other regulatory agency. If any action has been reported, a FSMB Physician Data Center (PDC) profile will be included.
Findings of irregular behavior and actions reported to the FSMB. Individuals found to have engaged in irregular behavior in conjunction with a USMLE exam will have an annotation on the transcript, and the decision letter from the USMLE Committee for Individualized Review will be included. If the irregular behavior was reported to the FSMB Physician Data Center, a PDC profile will also be included.
