“Without a doubt, the work-life balance is something I am really grateful for. The team can be highly productive in a low-stress environment and still enjoy free time after work.”

- Anne L.
  Senior Software Engineer

What attracted you to work at your company? How did you know it would be a good fit?

I really like the domain of non-profit work, especially as it relates to health care. My previous job was at a comparable company, but that company was quite small and I was the only technical employee. At the FSMB, I was excited to have an opportunity to be part of a larger team that seemed to work well together and while also having fun. Additionally, I really liked the work-life balance and just overall positive company culture. Besides that, the technologies used by the Information Services department aligned with my experience and also provided me with plenty of chances to learn more.

What are you responsible for in your current role?

I am responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting our enterprise-level applications. I participate in our project lifecycles using Agile practices to support development, documentation, troubleshooting, design and architecture, and analysis and research. As a senior engineer, I also mentor and train junior engineers as well as other new team members.

What are you working on right now that excites or inspires you?

I am currently working on integrating one of our existing web applications into our new, more modern system. This gives me a chance to dive deeper into both systems and make useful improvements.

What do you value most about your company’s or team’s culture? What sets it apart from other places you’ve worked?

Without a doubt, the work-life balance is something I am really grateful for. The team is able to be highly productive in a low-stress environment and still enjoy free time after work.

What’s one thing you would want a candidate to know about what it’s like to work at your company?

Working at the Federation of State Medical Board is fun. The company often shows that they care about the culture and their employees. We all get to enjoy many different parties, birthday and holiday celebrations, and occasional free lunches and snacks. The benefits package is also very competitive and appreciated.

What kinds of learning and development opportunities does your company offer? How have you grown in your career during your time there?

The Information Services department is very good at trying new technologies and encouraging training opportunities. Management actively advocates for us to attend technical conferences and work sessions. In my career here, I have been exposed to so many amazing new technologies and enjoyed multiple conferences, even presenting at two of them.
