 1.

Why should I use FCVS?

Applicants who complete the FCVS verification process establish a permanent, lifetime portfolio of primary-source verified credentials - allowing easy and cost-effective access to medical credentials whenever they are needed. These documents can be used throughout the applicant's career for state licensure, hospital privileges, employment and professional memberships. This service is especially valuable to those physicians graduating from medical school outside the United States or Canada, where verification can be time-consuming, costly and difficult. It is also extremely useful for those applicants applying to several state boards simultaneously, or those whose postgraduate training programs have closed.

Building a portfolio of primary-source verification is inherently a time-consuming process because it involves contacting multiple sources to ensure the information that we are archiving is accurate. However, once your FCVS Physician Profile has been completed, the time required to forward subsequent requests is significantly shorter. FCVS excels at archiving data - our ability as a data archiving service is what has made FCVS so attractive to over 215,000 users.

Which State Medical Boards accept/require FCVS?

Nearly all state medical and osteopathic boards accept or require FCVS. View a list of boards that accept or require FCVS’ Physician or Physician Assistant profile.

 3.

How much does it cost?

The total fees of FCVS usage vary from applicant to applicant, dependent upon the information required for the portfolio. An initial application fee entitles the applicant to have a personalized Profile created and sent to one recipient. The base fee is $375 (physician) or $145 (physician assistant), with an additional fee for applications not submitted online. Additional surcharges may apply to cover costs incurred to collect examination transcripts, ECFMG certification status report (if applicable), and other verification fees.

The Subsequent Profile (any profile sent subsequent to your Initial Profile) costs significantly less, with a base fee of $95 (physician) or $35 (physician assistant), with an additional fee for applications not submitted online. Additional surcharges may apply to cover costs incurred to collect examination transcripts, ECFMG certification (if applicable) and other miscellaneous verification fees.

Additional profiles (the physician's profile sent to additional state medical boards, hospitals or health care entities, or yourself at the same time as an Initial or Subsequent profile) are available for $65 each, plus any additional surcharges.

How long does the FCVS process take?

The cycle time for processing of applications will vary and building a credentials portfolio can be a time-consuming process. It involves contacting multiple sources to ensure the information about you that we are archiving is accurate. Sometimes, we encounter delays as we work with institutions to gather the information we need. We remain committed to communicating with you during the process.

Please remember that once information is verified and archived – An FCVS portfolio saves physicians, physician assistants, state boards and others time and energy when vital data needs to be provided for credentialing and licensing purposes.

Building your portfolio is a collaborative effort-- please submit all required forms and documents as soon as possible. The Affidavit & Release form and the Certification of Identification form with copy of your birth certificate or passport may be submitted electronically using online eNotary option or mailed to FCVS if using traditional notary service.” All other forms and documents may be scanned and uploaded in your application.

 5.

How do you obtain verification of my medical education?

The initial request for verification is sent to your medical school as soon as all of your supporting documents are received and confirmed correct.

FCVS sends domestic medical school verification requests via mail, email, fax, or MedEdConnect™, depending on their stated preference. If a response is incomplete or not received in a timely manner, an analyst will contact the school on a scheduled basis. Note: FCVS accepts electronic transcripts from Credentials Solutions, Inc., Scrip-Safe, Parchment, and the National Student Clearinghouse. If your medical school participates, you may order medical education transcripts and designate Federation Credentials Verification Service as the recipient.

For physicians who are ECFMG certified, requests are processed in collaboration with ECFMG (based on information obtained during your ECFMG Certification). If the international medical school is not responsive to ECFMG’s request, the designation of your file will dictate the total number of requests sent to your medical school. Generally, a total of three (3) requests will be sent to your medical school over a 120 day period. If verification is not received after these requests, it may be necessary for FCVS to hold your file until your medical school provides verification. In such situations, FCVS will contact you and outline all possible options. FCVS recommends that all international medical graduates provide a Federal Express account number to send/receive the verification request to/from your medical school. This allows both FCVS and you to track the shipment, and may significantly expedite your application processing.

 8.

What is a “Self” Designation?

The Self designation is designed to accommodate those applicants who wish to establish their core credentials but have not yet chosen an entity to receive their profile. Applications are fully processed and the applicant receives an electronic version of their FCVS Medical Professional Profile. Please note the Self designation profile does not include an ECFMG certification report (if applicable, international medical graduates only) or examination score transcript. Profiles sent to a state medical board may require these documents and additional fees may apply.

If you are forwarding your profile to a state board or other entity and wish to receive an electronic download of your completed profile, choose an additional Self designation (additional designation fee applies).

 9. Do I need to submit an application to the state board where I want to be licensed? What other documents do they require?

The FCVS application is NOT the same as an application for state licensure. Each state licensing authority will most likely require information and verification of credentials in addition to those verified by FCVS, and has its own application for licensure. Many state boards accept or require the Uniform Application. Please visit your designated board(s) website to view their specific application and requirements.

I completed an FCVS portfolio years ago, and am ready to submit a subsequent application for a new state board. What should I expect?

FCVS stores all documents related to your identity, medical education and postgraduate training. These documents are permanently stored in your FCVS portfolio; however, will be reviewed with each subsequent request and may require additional contact with the institution(s) if the documents do not meet specific board requirements. Any updates to the physician portfolio (i.e. additional training or completion of training that was previously in progress) may also require additional processing time.

Data reported on examination score transcripts and Confirmation of ECFMG Certification (if applicable) is considered proprietary by the issuing organizations; therefore FCVS is specifically prohibited from storing and/or duplicating these documents. Additional time (and surcharges, if applicable) may be required for FCVS to obtain original documents from these institutions.

FCVS aims to process your subsequent application request as quickly as possible; we are committed to communicating with you during the process.
