The Role of State Medical Boards

FSMB Education Services provides educational tools and resources that enhance the quality of medical regulation and raise public awareness of the vital role of state medical boards.
The FSMB works to identify, develop, and implement CME activities that address content areas that include medical regulation, licensure, discipline, and advocacy and policy to promote public health, safety and welfare.
The FSMB has launched “Understanding Medical Regulation in the United States,” a series of online multi-media educational modules designed for new members of state medical boards to help prepare them for their roles and responsibilities in public service.
The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide, and jointly provide, continuing medical education for physicians. We are pleased to serve as an accredited provider for continuing medical activities for state medical boards and other key stakeholder organizations.

In an effort to educate practitioners on current trends involving pharmaceutical controlled substances including the potential of controlled substance diversion, the FSMB recently partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to develop and host live continuing medical education (CME) activities for licensed physicians and physician assistants.
The FSMB Roundtable is a program of monthly conference calls that facilitates communication among member medical and osteopathic boards and FSMB staff. The calls are sponsored by the FSMB and the agenda is developed with input from member boards. These calls provide regular opportunities for member boards to communicate among themselves on current issues, public policy and legislative trends.
