FSMB Foundation Highlights

2026 FSMB Foundation Luncheon

Since its debut in 2013, the annual FSMB Foundation Luncheon, held in conjunction with the FSMB Annual Meeting, has raised thousands of dollars to support FSMB Foundation activities.

In May 2026, the FSMB Foundation celebrated the 14th anniversary of its annual fundraising event. The featured speaker was Lisa Rosenbaum, MD, National Correspondent for the New England Journal of Medicine and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School, who writes and speaks widely about the intersections of medicine, society and healthcare practice. Her work explores critical issues such as physician burnout, medical ethics, cognitive bias and primary care challenges.

2026 FSMB Foundation Grant Recipients Announced

For more than a decade, the FSMB Foundation has provided grants directly to state medical boards and other recipients to support research and education initiatives that advance best practices in medical regulation and strengthen the safety and quality of healthcare.

In early 2026, the FSMB Foundation awarded nearly $350,000 to five recipients to generate evidence-based research that addresses state and local workforce needs. The FSMB Foundation’s 2026 grant cycle supports research that specifically addresses state and local workforce needs, informs regulatory policy, and contributes to broader discussions about healthcare workforce shortages in the U.S.

Physician Professional Boundaries Video Series

In 2025, the FSMB Foundation, in collaboration with FSMB and the Administrators in Medicine Foundation, launched a new educational video series designed to help physicians navigate complex situations involving professional boundaries in clinical practice.

Maintaining appropriate boundaries is essential for protecting patient trust, upholding ethical standards, and ensuring safe, respectful care. This series offers real-world scenarios that highlight where those boundaries can sometimes become blurred.

By addressing these often difficult but critical topics, the series aims to support safe, ethical care and strengthen patient-physician interactions. This educational resource is intended for a wide audience, including medical students and residents, practicing physicians, state medical board members and staff, and patients and others in the medical regulatory community

The video series is available online, and participants are eligible to receive continuing medical education (CME) credit upon completion.
