Transcripts FAQ

To send a transcript to a medical licensing authority, yourself, or other entity or individual, you must create an account with FSMB (or log into your existing account) and submit a transcript request, along with the associated fee. 

It depends on who your FCVS profile is being sent to.   

Profiles sent to state medical and osteopathic boards:
No. Transcripts for all exams you have history for are included in your profile. The FCVS fee for profiles to state boards includes the price of the transcript(s).  

Profiles sent to yourself or to a third-party (residency program, hospital, etc.):
Yes. You will need to order and pay for a transcript to be sent separately from your FCVS profile. You can order a transcript here.

The FSMB only maintains scores for the USMLE, SPEX, FLEX and NBME Parts examinations. 

Guidance on requesting scores for other exams (ECFMG, COMLEX-USA, NBOME Parts, MCCQE or State Board Exams) is provided in a separate FAQ.

FSMB (for USMLE, SPEX and FLEX exams only).

FSMB, a co-sponsor of the USMLE, produces all transcripts for the USMLE program, including for international medical students and graduates (IMGs). To obtain your USMLE transcript or have it sent to a third party, you must create an account with FSMB and submit a transcript request, along with the associated fee. 

IMGs who need or would like to obtain a complete score history of non-USMLE exams taken for ECFMG should review the information provided on the ECFMG website here.

IMGs who need or would like to request an ECFMG Status Report to be sent to a Medical Licensing Authority should follow the instructions provided on the ECFMG website here.

If you are an international medical student or graduate (IMG) and need or would like to request an ECFMG Status Report to be sent to a medical licensing authority, you should follow the instructions provided on the ECFMG website here. 

IMGs who need or would like to obtain a complete score history of non-USMLE exams taken for ECFMG should refer to the Request for an Official ECFMG Examination History Chart on the ECFMG website.

State Board Examination: Contact the applicable state board. Most boards require a fee for this service. 

You no longer have access to your score report.
USMLE score reports are available for 365 days from the score release date. After 365 days, the score report is removed, and your scores will only be provided to you in the form of an official USMLE transcript. The graphical performance profiles included on original USMLE score reports are only available on the score report and are not included with USMLE transcripts.    

You are applying for initial licensure.
Applicants for initial licensure are required to provide an official transcript as part of the licensure process.   

You are already licensed and are applying for licensure by endorsement in a new state.
Licensed physicians may need to submit an official transcript in order to obtain a license in another state.   

Your residency program, hospital or another entity requests it.
You may need to submit an official transcript to residency programs, hospitals or other entities for a variety of reasons, such as to progress to year 3 of a residency program or for credentialing or privileging purposes.   

You want one for your personal records.
Since a transcript provides all of your examination history in one document, you may find it helpful to have an official transcript for your personal records (e.g., in case you need to note exam dates and/or scores on a licensure application).

Yes. 

FSMB does not automatically send a copy of your transcript(s) to you when you submit a transcript request. If you need or would like a transcript sent to yourself, you must enter yourself as a recipient on your transcript order.

To send a transcript to yourself, choose “Myself” as a recipient when completing the online transcript order. “Myself” will be counted as one recipient in calculating your fees for your order.

If you would like multiple copies of your transcript for your records, you do not need to enter yourself as a recipient multiple times. You only need to enter “Myself” as a recipient once.

The transcript will be sent to you via email at the email address you provide on your transcript order. The email will include a link for you to access and download the transcript; you will need to have the most recent Adobe reader downloaded on your computer to do so.  

The email link will be valid and accessible to you for 30 days. The transcript will also be available to you via the FSMB portal for six months. After that time, you must submit a new transcript order (including fee) in order to get a copy of your transcript.

These are the only cards we accept at this time.

FSMB maintains and reports scores for the USMLE, SPEX, FLEX, and NBME Parts examinations only.

FSMB reports all available exam history. If you have history/scores for multiple exams, transcripts for all exams will be included and sent to all recipients.  

The graphical performance profiles included on USMLE score reports are not included in USMLE transcripts.   

Official transcripts include the following:

• Biographical information (date of birth and all names FSMB has for you).
• Complete score/attempt history, including incomplete attempts and/or any examinations for which no results were reported. (Some state medical boards count incomplete attempts toward their exam attempt limits.)
• Annotation(s) of any actions taken against you by medical licensing authorities or other entities that have been reported to the FSMB Physician Data Center. If any action has been reported, a FSMB Physician Data Center (PDC) Profile will be included.
• Indication of whether you have previously taken the former NBME Parts I, II, or III; Federation Licensing Examination (FLEX); or ECFMG Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA).
• Annotation(s) and information documenting classification of any scores as indeterminate (see Score Validity and Irregular Behavior information on the USMLE website). 
• Annotation(s) and information documenting any irregular behavior (see Score Validity and Irregular Behavior information on the USMLE website).

20 recipients maximum per request form. 

Up to 20 recipients may be entered on each online transcript order. Additional recipients require submission of a new order.

Once a transcript request is submitted, it cannot be canceled, changed or refunded.

No. 

Transcripts are processed and sent to recipients very quickly – usually within 24 hours of the transcript order being submitted. If you need to add additional recipients after submitting an order, you must submit a new transcript order, including payment of a new fee.  

If you need or would like a transcript sent to yourself, you must enter yourself as a recipient. We do not automatically send a copy of your transcript to you when you order transcripts. To send a transcript to yourself, choose “Yourself” as a recipient when completing the online transcript order.

FSMB provides official transcripts only in an electronic (PDF) format. We do not mail paper transcripts.  

Medical licensing authorities – State medical and osteopathic boards receive transcripts via a secure, online portal. Transcripts remain on the portal for six months from the delivery date.  

Residency Application Services – FSMB produces USMLE transcript for ERAS and ResidencyCAS. Participating programs receive transcripts electronically through a secure, online transfer.

You (“Myself”) – The transcript will be sent to you via email at the email address you provide on your transcript order. The email will include a link for you to access and download the transcript; you will need to have the most recent Adobe reader downloaded on your computer to do so. The link will be valid and accessible to you for 30 days. The transcript will be available via the FSMB portal for six months. 

All others –Transcript will be sent to the entity or individual via email at the email address you provide on your transcript order. The email will include a link for the recipient to access and download the transcript. The link will be valid and accessible to the recipient for 30 days. 

You can view your transcript order history by logging onto your account with FSMB and clicking on the “View Transcript Orders”. This page will contain information such as when the transcript was ordered, the status of the request, who the recipient(s) are, and the delivery date of the transcript.

Transcripts are posted twice daily (once in the morning and again at the end of the workday) to a secure, online portal available to state medical and osteopathic boards in the United States, and a few medical regulatory authorities outside of the U.S. Transcripts remain on the portal for six months from the delivery date.

We use 128-bit encryption (SSL) for transmission of data. We never store credit card information, except the last 4 digits.
